About: The Deputy Directorate of Bilingualism (DDB) is one of three Deputy Directorates of the General Directorate of Bilingualism and Quality of Education regulated by the Madrid Regional Ministry of Education, Universities, Science and Spokesmanship. For the last 17 years, the DDB has monitored public institutions to ensure the quality of the Madrid Spanish-English Bilingual Program. Project Information

Background: Recent legislation has been implemented requiring the extension of the Spanish-English Bilingual Program to early childhood education (students aging from 3 to 6 years old). Due to this new legislation taking place, Spanish educators are in need of additional training and support that specifically targets strengthening their ability to boost English language acquisition for early-learners.

Goals: The U.S. educator will deliver intensive trainings for kindergarten educators to equip them with innovative early education TEFL teaching strategies, approaches, and activities. These trainings will also boost the educators’ English language proficiency skills, which will help in improving student outcomes. Similar English language acquisition trainings have taken place over the last two years. However, upon successful completion of this project, it is hoped that it can serve a model to strengthen trainings that are already a part of the Spanish-English Bilingual Program for early learners.

Activities: Leading seminars, workshops, or other teacher professional development for educators; developing academic curricula or educational materials; and advising Ministry of Education or other educational institutions on educational policies and projects or participating in educational consultations.
